nutritious, sustainable, AND accessible pricing? is salty cat food too good to be true?

short answer: nope! 

we believe that every cat deserves nutritious food (without needing to shell out half your paycheck to afford it). we know, it’s hard to believe. as cat parents and consumers ourselves, it’s normal to think that companies don’t have our best interests at heart. 

but salty cat is different. when we discovered what most big brands were putting in their cat food and treats, we were disgusted. most name-brand pet foods stuff fillers and additives into their products to maximize profit margins (think: artificial coloring, sketchy by-products, and unnecessary fillers). 

on the flip side, the healthier options would cost over $100 a month. or more.

there had to be a middle ground. so we created it. 

how is salty cat pricing so accessible? 

to be super honest, we’re able to keep prices low because we have lower profit margins. caring for your cat should be easy, no matter where you are or what your income level is. there are so many cat lovers out there with big hearts. we don't want exorbitant pricing to stop you from feeding your cats healthy food.

and unlike other brands with similar prices, we don’t pad our formulas with cheap ingredients. we keep it simple with real proteins. and there are absolutely no nasties like fillers, dyes, meat by-products, corn, or soy.

ingredient transparency 

nine lives aren’t enough. we all want our cats to live long and healthy lives. and of course, the food they eat matters.

we prioritize transparency in every ingredient we use. on our labels, you'll notice that instead of vague “meat by-products,” we clearly list organ meats so you know exactly what your cat is eating. when other brands list "meat by-products," this could include things like beaks or feathers. yikes. you won’t find that here. 

our commitments to sustainability 

we practice care and intention at every level. our recipes are made using responsible farming practices and produced in a family-owned facility that manufactures human-grade pet food. (we don’t recommend chomping down on cat treats, but you *technically* could.)

all materials we use are ethically sourced and manufactured in a sustainable facility:

• they're equipped with solar panels (reduces about 1,839.40 tons of CO2 emissions per year). 

• proudly MSC certified, which means the seafood products are harvested responsibly and meets rigorous standards to protect the marine ecosystem.  

• committed to using 98% recyclable materials.

you can also rest easy knowing all of our products are third-party tested to ensure safety and maximum deliciousness.

we take care of our team

taking care of cats means taking care of their humans. our team is distributed around the world, which means they can work at home with the comfort of their kitties (even if they decide to sit on the work laptop). 

we want every team member to enjoy their work and show up wholeheartedly. we never glorify burnout. and we always remind each other to “mind your mind”. salty cat can only thrive if our people are well. 

as we continue to grow, we want all our team members to get rewarded alongside our success. “a rising tide lifts all shifts” is a sentiment that our CEO, Allison Albert Ward, strongly believes in and puts into practice.

how salty cat supports our community

rescue kitties and new cat parents often need the most support.

so far, we’ve supported 20+ shelters, rescues, and SPCAs around the country (we donated ~200 boxes of yummy treats and food). we hope to expand that reach even more this year.

alongside shelters, we love building community events. we recently partnered with Purlates (it was incredible.) besides doing pilates with adorable cats roaming about, Purlates donates proceeds to local shelter and helps kitties socialize before heading to their forever homes. 

but that’s not all! we’re currently building out our shelter program. we want to be the first call when shelters need any support. whether that's food donations, care packages, or treats for events. if you wanna partner with us, you can fill out a form here.

pet nutrition shouldn’t be a luxury. you can find salty cat products (and subscribe + save) on saltycat.com. but if you prefer to shop IRL or on Amazon, you can do that, too. we’re at Walmart, Dollar Tree, Weis, and Bomgaars. 

even the saltiest of cats will find something they’ll love. our freeze-dried treats are crowd favorites (my kitties tear open the package if i leave it out). and if you’re looking to help support your cat’s skin, coat, and hydration, our functional purée treats are a smart choice. 

but we’re advocates for experimenting with different treats—we’re sure your cats will enjoy being pampered with the variety. 

so is salty cat food too good to be true?

not at all. our food and treats are made only with the good stuff. it’s all there on the label. as a team of cat people, we know that your cats deserve the best.
