at salty cat, we mean it when we say: we really care about your cats. 

but if you’re a bit wary, we get it, especially since we live in a world dominated by giant conglomerates. these days, it seems like companies care more about profit than your pets. 

that’s not the case here. 

we were founded on the principle that all cats deserve nutritious food at everyday prices. inexpensive cat food gets stuffed with fillers and cheap ingredients, and the ultra-premium food will cost you half your paycheck. 

there had to be a middle ground. so we made it. 

we take care of our ingredients and nutrition

we leave it to the experts to develop our food. to ensure our meals are nutritionally sound, we partner with board-certified veterinary nutritionists and adhere to AAFCO standards. beyond that, we have a philosophy that simpler is better (and safer for sensitive tummies). our freeze-dried treats, for example, are single-ingredient. our freeze-dried chicken, tuna, and minnow treats are 100% protein.

if you’ve perused our site enough, you’ll notice we say “no junk, fillers, dyes, or additives” on every listing. and we’ll double down on that. unlike some big brands, we avoid cheap fillers like corn. cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they get their vital nutrients from meat. when companies stuff corn in their food, they’re reducing the amount of pure protein (and increasing their profit margins).

salty cat food is cooked for safety 

the protein sources in our meals and treats are fully cooked—especially our freeze-dried treats. we don’t want to take our chances with raw food, as there is never 100% certainty that all pathogens or harmful bacteria are gone. so rest easy knowing our meals, purées, freeze-dried treats, and benefit boosters are safe for your cats.

our manufacturer is certified for safety, quality, and sustainability

salty cat manufacturing facilities have multiple safety and quality certifications:

• HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) - a preventive food safety system. staff are trained to identify and control biological, chemical, and physical hazards in food production

• GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) - all products are manufactured utilizing industry best practices.

• BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) -  certified production of safe and high-quality products. this certification covers various aspects of food production, including hygiene, traceability, and risk management.

• MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) seafood products are harvested responsibly and meets rigorous standards to protect the marine ecosystem  

our food production is gentler on the planet, too

we practice care and intention at every level. our recipes are made using responsible farming practices and produced in a family-owned facility that manufactures human-grade pet food. (we don’t recommend chomping down on cat treats, but you technically could.)

all materials we use are ethically sourced and manufactured in a sustainable facility:

• equipped with solar panels (reduces about 1,839.40 tons of CO2 emissions per year). 

• MSC certified, which means the seafood products are harvested responsibly and meets rigorous standards to protect the marine ecosystem
